If you are a tenant and you want to make kitchen innovations, you will typically need the approval of your landlord. You can also try to negotiate on the payments for the renovation expenses if you know how to present your case.
Before meeting your landlord, list down all the fixtures needed in your kitchen. The landlord is responsible for giving you comfortable living conditions so, if he sees that you are not satisfied with the amenities, it is his responsibility to improve them. However, if the repairs were brought about by your own neglect, you will naturally have to pay for them. Also, if you are on a “rent to own” contract, you are liable to contribute for the payment of fixtures.
If you want to refurbish your whole kitchen you can present your plans to your landlord and offer to do the renovations yourself, proposing that he shoulder the cost for materials. If he does not agree to pay for it but he will allow you to do the improvements on your own, you can try to work on little projects and gradually complete your desired kitchen makeover in time.
